General Color Receives ISO:9001:2000 Certification:

General Color is committed to being a market leader when it comes to quality assurance. In May 2003, General Color obtained the highest recognition for quality - the ISO 9001:2000 with Design International certification. The ISO (International Organization for Standardization) certification is an internationally recognized series of standards for quality management systems.

The company's entire quality system was audited and certified by Smithers Quality Assessments Inc. (SQA), a leading independent accredited registrar. Smithers is fully accredited both by the Dutch Council for Accreditation (RvA) and the Registrar Accreditation Board (RAB) and is a member of the Independent Association of Accredited Registrars.

General Color and Chemical Co., Inc. specializes in the design and manufacture of color and additive dispersions. To accomplish the objective of providing the highest quality in its products, ISO registration was sought to provide operations that facilitates growth in a cost-effective manner while improving quality and service to customers.

General Color Focuses on Plastic Color:

General Color and Chemical Company completed the sale of the Ceramic and Glass Division to Glass Coatings and Concepts, LLC a wholly owned subsidiary of Shepherd Color Company of Cincinnati, Ohio, today, April 7, 2003.

"General Color and Chemical Company has transformed over the last several years to a greater focus as a leader in the world of plastic colorants," said Keith W. Gartner, president. This is evidenced by a three year renovation project in our Plastic Division."
"The sale of the ceramic and glass portion of the company is a natural progression as we continue to shape our company. We've expanded our plastic business base with new products and services and broadened our technology and engineering capabilities to allow us to deliver more value to a greater number of customers.

The acquisition of the ceramic and glass division by Glass Coatings and Concepts, LLC, will provide them a solid entrance into the market of glass enamels. Steve Kopeck, Hasan Emlemdi and Jesus Garrido will provide their expertise and experience to the customers of this newly formed business.

The ceramic stain and pottery frit component of the business will merge with Shepherd Color giving them a greater presence in these markets. William Denny is joining this group. Shepherd is a provider of complex inorganic color pigments for coatings, plastics, ceramics and glass enamels. The complete array of products provided by General Color's Ceramic and Glass Division is now available through Shepherd Color and Glass Coatings and Concepts.
